PS-2 slim v12 with hdconnect, modbo 4.0, pic fix and sum0ne's fix

I had a hd connect sitting around so decided to install it on my day off. Set up a 160 gb ide harddrive with it and a patched version of hdloader for v12's. The pic fix will shut the ps-2 off before the mechacon crash's and the resistors should help prevent laser burnout when using crappy media. I haven't tested it yet so hopefully it all work's.

 

Weren't the resistors going to cause read issues, I thought the reason burnt media damaged optical pickups was purely from MECHACON crashing..?
So having resistors will just make the OP work harder....

 

Iirc, the resistors are making the values the same as later slims. So the assumption is that those are the correct values

 

Will it cause read issue's. Should I remove the resistor's and just use the pic fix? I really wasn't sure what to do.

I used 2.0k resistor since the board has the "683"'s on Rst and a 4.7k resistor for Rsf.

Anyway the spindle motor is bad on this ps-2. I did order a new one so have to wait to test it.

I have always had a hard time doing the laser fix's on v12's and after looking at what voultar and jinn have done felt this would be the correct route to take.

I'll keep you posted on how it all works when i get the motor.

The modchip and hdconnect install do work fine I'm happy to say.

 

im going to be doing the HDConnect mod very soon to my V12 slim. does it function the same as a phat PS2 with a HDD? Can you use HDD OSD with it?

 

Yes it functions the same as a phat accept you need a patched version of hdloader for v12/13 slim's. I would imagine it would work fine with HD OSD. I haven't personal tried it though.

The later versions 7500x and above all have the ide solder points removed :/

 

Well got the spindle motor and still not spinning the disc. I ordered a new laser ribbon cable now just to rule that out. If that don"t work anybody want a ps-2 slim with hd connect, modbo 4.0, 160 gb harddrive and non working laser assembly.

The laser is good as far as i can tell. It lights up bright and moves when switch's are engaged.

 

where do you get the patched version of HDLoader from? I cant find it anywhere

 

It doesn't mean that the PS2 is actually able to detect a disc with it.

You can use OPL instead, which is entirely free and legal.

 

Yeah I'll probably just use OPL since HDD OSD doesnt work on the slim PS2, which is the only reason I wanted HDLoader.

 

I have a new laser coming too. So I'll just change that, the laser ribbon and power eject ribbon and see if it work's.

Edit: Changed the laser. It now works.
