I recently obtained a PTEL-1001, a testing kit vita. From what I can tell its basically a retail running the debug firmware so no extra ports or HDMI out on it. I am curious if anyone knows specifically what an expired PTEL CANNOT do. I have figured out pkg loading and content downloader via URL. So far I have found retail carts will install the icon on the dashboard but fails to initiate with an error popping up. I've been told it cannot run fselfs now that its activation is expired, but no one has been able to explain if it can load retail and kiosk pkg or not. For those curious it is already expired with it running 2.60 OFW. Any information would help tremendously.
I think you've already hit upon it. Expired test kits cannot installed unsigned packages, cannot run fselfs, and cannot run carts.
Can they install and run retail signed pkg files though? I figured they would at least install and run as trial versions but so far anything I attempt to install both through Content Downloader and through Package Installer fails with the same error code. Maybe the pkg are too new for the ofw?
No you can't install most signed packages but for reasons different from the activations. However even if you install a package, it won't run because of activation. Not even trials would run.
Well its not a huge issue to just have it as a collectible since I have other retail Vita's but I would like to explore all options of this device before giving up. Is there anything this Vita can do beside play movies, music and web browser? Glad I did not spend a grand on a PS4 Test Kit now....
A few people have asked regarding the internals of this device. I have opened it carefully to take a few pics for those interested. I did not break it down to the bare board, simply removed the back in order to remove the battery. On this test kit, when the battery is removed the bottom devkit/testkit message board changes messages to something regarding updating time via internet.
nice picture, thank you share it. please mask the barcode and label, before you post the pic is better
@XboxSurgeon, Thank you for share images, but it would be just wonderful, if you will scan this in 600 dpi if possible.
