I didn't have to make any additional holes in the case I just used the ventilation slits that are already there and it works quite effectively. I also picked up a 7501 yesterday and modchipped it so I might just move my fan to my new 7501.

My 1001 works all right with a modchip I have 7 wire stealth ii in mine. Put in myself, which surprised me that I did it right. I've done a little soldering here and there. Made me more confident. :) I had to tweak the laser on my 1001. It doesn't have problems with fmv's or skipping anymore. Burnt games work great now.

Well my laser will not read burned games any more. All I have is this SCPH-7501 model. I was thinking or picking up another PlayStation at a second hand store so I could do this mod. Not that I need a working laser to do this mod but, you know.
After a little digging I found this:

    What do y'all think?
Also, I i have a spare fan pulled from a non functional PlayStation 2. In the back it says DC 8.5v. Do you think this would work too?

This is the list of copy protected games for the psx. I know Dino Crisis won't work unless the psx has a stealth chip. Dino Crisis works great on my Stealth modded psx. http://www.reocities.com/psxcplist/ Gotta love google to find this stuff.

I still don't regret buy a 7501 the other day as it was only 10 bucks and I installed a mayumi v4 in it.

So I got one of those SCPH-9001 and took the laser from it and dropped into my SCPH-7501. It works really well now. Instead of buying a new laser from the link I posted above I found the SCPH-9001 at my local Badwill for $2.99, that's cheaper than a new laser.
I'm going to use it as a test unit for mods.
