Has anyone have one of those? I got one on a flea market, and i'm kinda lost. It works ok, but only shows one "page", even on GameShark's memory card explorer.. How can i see the whole memory canrd and what's in it? It seems its full. The damn thing has a display that sometimes show "3", but most of the time it shows "4".
I have one (or somehting similar). When I want to switch banks I hold down 'Select' and then use either 'L' or 'R' shoulder buttons to change banks (on the controller). Hope this helps. If it is similar to mine, the number will show which bank your on. And if you are in the the memory card screen on the PSX you will see the data change (for the 15 blocks or whatever).
Thank you all for the info. It indeed uses bank switching. It's not reliable, but for free, how could i resist? thamasha69, i'll try that command to switch pages. Hope it works, like in the one you got.
The ones I saw had a screen showing the number of the current page, with each page working like an independent memory card. They also had a button to switch pages, but I don't think you could change them with the joypad. Maybe there're different models, it wouldn't be rare like they're all 3rd party stuff...
No, actually, you can. I have a 2-bank one that does it with Select-L2. No idea how that works, would be an interesting project to figure out (maybe the card's snooping the controller port bus?)
Well, i did the test, and like assemble said, it's very unreliable. Not that it deletes saves, but the switch page command sometimes work and sometimes it simply doesn't. But it was just like thamasha69 said. Hold Select and then press L1 to move forward or R1 to go backwards. On the normal PS1 Memory Card menu, sometimes when switching pages it showed a "F" on the MC display and went back to the last loaded page. This "F" probably means Failed. Went to the GameShark MemoryCard Manager and things went smoother. I was able to switch through all 8 pages (8Mb = 8 Memory Cards). This is what i found: Page 1 - 15 blocks - 10 free Sonic Wings Special - 1block G-Darius - 1block R-Type Delta (Ace Pilot) - 1block Raiden DX - 1block RayCrisis - 1block Page 2 - 15 blocks - 9 Free X-Men Mutant Academy - 1block Capcom Vs SNK Pro - 1block X-Men Mutant Academy 2 - 1block SFZero 3 - 1block King of Fighters 99 - 1block Cart 1PL Intermediate - 1block Page 3 - 15 blocks - ??? Free Unformatted Page 4 - 15 blocks - 14 Free GT2 Game Data - 1 block Page 5 - 15 blocks - ??? Free Unformatted Page 6 - 15 blocks - ??? Free Unformatted Page 7 - 15 blocks - 11 Free Syphon Filter 3 - 2blocks SF3 Settings and Cheats - 1block MGS MNMN 00:07 Heliport - 1block Page 8 - 15 blocks - ??? Free Unformatted On those ones that shows unformatted, the GameShark MemoryCard Manager gives the option to format card = L1+L2. My worries are: If i format one of the "pages", will it format only the page or the whole thing? Could it "kill" the damn thing? I'll test it tonight anyway. PS: It doesn't even had a brand on it. The only text on it is on the casing saying 8 Mega. Inside it has that damn black glue sealing the chip.
Whoever used that card sure had good taste (see the first page) If you're not sure how to format pages individually, then skip the Gameshark and use the PS1's built-in memory card manager, as it can see only one page anyways.
Yeah! Too bad when i got there they didn't had those games anymore. They only had Cart World Series (which i bought) and other games like Army Men and tons of bootlegs which i didn't care to look through. GameShark memory card manager is great. Way faster and complete than the original built-in.
Johnny - I'm glad that worked for you. My card has 72 banks...I bought it like 8 years ago and just fired up bank #50 lol. My card has no graphic or text whatsoever - I think when I received it years ago it was in a plastic bag stapled shut and that was it ;-).
Think I have a pair of those with 8 banks. can't remember the button combo for switching bank thought, maybe it's the same as the one posted here
I don't really see what a 'compression routine' has to do with being able to switch banks using the pad? And I'm pretty sure they're on the same bus - too bad the low-level details from the point of the PSX haven't been detailed very well... Sony dev docs seem to focus on library use, and most homebrew docs are fine with using the BIOS functions.
