Actually it's a PC game that they lazily ported to the arcade. I played it once, and I remember seeing a Windows screen flash for a moment in between loading. It looked to me like they basically stuck a standard PC in an arcade machine.
I used to love Beachhead on the Acorn Electron. One of the few games on the system that I fully completed. Boy, games were hard back then!
Had this on the Amstrad CPC, as well as Beach head II, which I think were both published by Ocean / U.S. Gold. Excellent titles and yep, I completed them both. No huge fanfare in those days, just the opportunity to go back round again and do better!
Yeah, I remember it taking a while to shoot out the ships in the first 'level' and thinking that was all there was to the game, only to be delighted at the tank race level that came afterwards. It was hardcore in those days
It didn't make it because SCEA didn't approve it. It was finished and when submitted, some teenage girls at SCEA were doing the final approval and rejected it. It wasn't as thrilling as MOH and other games like it. That was the word from the museum who also posted pics and a video of Beach Head.
