I currently dug out of storage my Slim PS2 that is modified to play all region PS1/PS2 games. Any hoo, i hooked it up via component cables to the LG HDTV i have. However when I try to play PS1 games, it will not display anything but I get sound. It also does it on some PS2 games like Megaman X Collection. This did not happen on my older Vizio 47". However there are some issues with the TV and I have since put it in my daughters room since the RGB/Component/RF inputs still work (HDMI wont handshake) Anyone hear no of a model/make of an HDTV that will step down to 240p? If this is the wrong forum I am sorry but I am currently looking to get a slightly older TV that can handle my gaming needs. I have older consoles too so this would help greatly.
I had problems getting some PS1 games to display on a HDTV with PS2 also. I had to downgrade to standard AV cables. I dont think the component cables work on some modern HDTV's. I dunno why.
My old Vizio can step down to 240p and it plays all PS1 games from the PS2, but why I am not using it is because the HDMI ports will not handshake, and also the infrared port just died. The way the girls room is set up they can get to the TV controls just fine. I can fix it but the cost would be redundant if I can find a larger model of this TV, or any other model preferably 50" to 55" that can handle 240p I can find it on eBay, craigslists, or the pawn shop I work at when it comes in.
Cant play my imports on my PS3. I have a 20GB PS3 upgraded to a 250GB hardrive. I can play my NTSC PS2 games on my PS3 but not my Japanese and PAL imports. Gonna test it out tonight. I am running homebrew on my slim PS2
XVT472SV GSM works real well. You can run it thru homebrew and reset to the PS2 browser. It will look strange when launching a game but it corrects itself in-game. I tested Ridge Racer type 4 and Twin Bee Deluxe pack for PS1. Ridge Racer looks like it should but Twin Bee was amazing in 480p. I thought it was MAME but wow!!. I As for Megaman X Collection (PS2), the screen is squandered a bit, but playable. You may need to set your TV to zoom but it works.
Yeah this program works well. I have a few more games to test out but as long as I can play my import PS1 games on my TV I'm good
I dropped Tobias of http://retrogaming.hazard-city.de/ and he floated me a few recommendations. If your TV can handle the raw signal, he suggested getting an RGB to Component adapter. If you want scanlines, the the OSSC or Frame mister are your options among others. Which brings me to my question, Should I ditch component on my PS2 and get an RGB cable instead? Gamecube and XBOX I'll still run through component. But Should I run my PS2 through an RGB scart cable?
Well I'm in the US, and we don't have SCART on our TVs. I was trying to hook up a Dreamcast via an RGB cable however it did not work because the resolution is natively is 640 x 480. PS2 thru component is that highest option you can find for video.
There are a few games that will do HD, so for those you've gotta do component. Also what's a good RGB to Component adapter? That's why he said RGB to Component converter. I'm looking into getting one as well for older systems, since yeah we didn't get SCART here and the next best thing that was widely adopted is S Video. The cables should still work for NTSC, if you get a converter that works on something your TV has. I have a 5 year old Dynex 40" that hasn't had any problems with old component or VGA, and a 7+ year old AOC. I'm out of town at the moment, so I can't get the model numbers.
Remember Japan DID get RGB Scart in NTSC. What I'm looking for is something to use said cable through component
On a PS2, I'd feed component through an upscaler. PS2 has the hassle of 480p over RGB switching to sync-on-green.
The US got RGB SCART, but it was in a small amount of TVs and monitors, there were a very small amount of ones you can get with RGB SCART inputs.
SO Component- XBOX, PS2, Gamecube RGB fed through a component adapter- N64, Saturn VGA fed through HDMI- Dreamcast (maybe RGB for those few pesky non VGA games) That's what I should be aiming for? There is of course still the matter of what I feed all these things through. The Framemiester is still too expensive plus feeding component might require another adapter to converge US Component to the more compact D-Terminal, DVDO iscan devices don't have scanlines, There is this new thing called the OSSC that's a do it your self type thing....
I Have black screen with GSM for PSX game, I try to force 480p, else I have 480i with offcial compnent, game launch via OPL PS2 Loader and Popstarter.
use gsm 0.23x. select ntsc-i full buffer by pressing circle on controller then exit. then just adjust your hdtv resolution
