PS1 disable dithering w/ Gameshark or Action Replay codes

the colors are off and pop-ups are more visible. Looks like the game was designed based on dithering.

Would rendering at a higher bit color help it all? I found some info on dithering. User (Zombeaver) has a nice image.

Codes have fugly effects tho.

 

I'm sure this is something I could do myself with enough time and effort, but I would really love it if somebody created PPF patches for some of these games. Honestly, Castlevania: SoTN (US) is the only patch that interests me at the moment but it would be nice to avoid having to enter a GameShark code every time I launch the game.

Thanks. It's not as simple as just hex editing the file though. You have to extract the file from the CD image, change the value, and insert the file back into the CD image using a tool that corrects the ECC / EDC of the image. The beauty of a PPF is that it does all of this for you. Hopefully someone will post a PPF on romhacking or another site so we have a "newb friendly" solution.

 

PPFs are just a patch. They dont extract and repack anything. Its just a differential patch

 

I thought some PPFs patched the ECC data as well. Or maybe I'm thinking of a different patch format.

 

Well assuming the iso was rebuilt with corrected ecc, the patch would also do that too.

 

Hi, I can't guarantee this will work with all ISO/BIN formats, but for SOTN (U):

Using a hex editor, change byte at location $12751 (75601) in the ISO file from 02 -> 00.
