I'm not sure if this is the best place to make this thread. If not, my bad. I have the original PS1 that the GameShark Pro will plug into, and I have the GS as well. Yay me. What kind of cable do I need to hook the GS up to my PC? Is there needed software? I'm not in possession of the instruction manuals for the GS, so any input would be great.
You need a male-female "straight through" DB25 cable and I believe a PC with a parallel port. I'm not positive though, the original PAR required a "Comm Link" ISA card which also used DB25 connectors so it's not immediately clear. You will need software, but the official software isn't compatible with XP/Vista. There is probably a 3rd party tool which is. Unless you want to upload code to your PS, I'm pretty sure a PC isn't even needed, the GS Pro should contain internal memory which can be used to store variables for cheat searching.
Like I said, I know nothing about how this thing works. I do know that there are codes available online that are not present on the GS disc that came with the GS unit itself, and it'd be nifty to use them. My PC is too new to have a parallel port, so I was thinking about a Parallel-to-USB cable... Is that feasible? Thanks for the help. I know that my questions were kinda open-ended, but it looks like we're on the right track, and I appreciate it.
Well I got my hands on a GS Pro and it DOES use a parallel port, pretty awesome. You can't use a USB->parallel adapter, those generally only work for printers. Even if you got one that didn't you'd have to write your own program for it since they can't really work well with existing programs. If you're going to enter other people's codes, you can do that by hand. And like I said, since you have a GS Pro you can already find your own codes using the built in searcher. If you want to do homebrew or dump screenshots or something, you will need a PC link though. There are PCI/PCIe parallel port cards...
