Just got one of those in a package with a PS1 + some games. Anyway, the Memory Card looks brand new, but it doesn't work.

It does not show up on the Memory Card Browser (i tested all my other memory cards to see and they all worked, so the problem it's not the memory card port).

On games, it keeps asking to insert a memory card. Rage Racer shows a message when you try to load/save on it: "Memory Card Error!". I even tried using the GameShark Memory Card Utility to try to format it, but again it saying there's no memory card connected, so i can't even do that.

My question is: Is the damn thing dead? Maybe using some isopropyl alcohol to clean it's contacts will make it ressurect?

Is it a sony brand or cheapo Interact brand? PS1 memory cards are pretty damn cheap.

It's the Sony branded. Nowadays i can only find the damn pirated ones down here. (the ones with PSOne written on it).

This one that i got with the pack it's an original, but seems to be dead.

I thought Sony made ones with "PSOne" on them?

Sounds dead. Throw it out and get another. Geez, we sell third party ones for like £2 new.... or second hand Sony for around the same, or is it £1.50?

I know they're cheap. I was just asking if there's a way to ressurect it since i never had problems with memory cards before (it's the first time i see one "dead"). I got it with lots of stuff in a flea market. It's not like i'm desperate, i'm just curious.

Not without dismantling it and replacing the dead memory, I don't think. It just isn't worth it.

I work in a game shop, and I have seen LOTS of dead memory cards. PS2 it happens a lot with. As well as totally dying, you also find the "looks alright but isn't" whereby saves won't load or delete, or the card won't save.
