    What model is your PS1?
That chip can have different types of programs installed with different installation diagrams, though.

I would assume there is an MM3 hex on the 12C508A.

    Try this diagram:

But how did you find the chip loose inside the console? Are there no wires attached to it? Sounds weird.

wires are attached to chip but they detached form the solder somehow

Try the MM3 diagram. Might work.

Here's a guide for the pin numbers on the chip.

Careful with point 3. If you heat the resistor too much you will knock it off the board.

No promises of when but I'll be putting a modchip myself. Once I open it I'll trace the pin out for you.

Pretty sure point 6 is a cap and he said he's lost the cap, so you would need to remove the cap and measure it. Or check schematics, I think the 9xxx series service manual is available

So he would have to replace
    Won't be stealth like that.

He might not care if backups are patched before hand.

But you are quite right, if you are resoldering it in anyway - may as well replace it with a stealth chip.

If the chip was programmed with oldcrow code (aka classic chip) it won't be magically become stealth, even if you connect the other not used 3 wires.
That's why i've posted the right diagram.
