Well Resident Evil is being ported. But not completely intact. Its space limitations on the DS cards that holds it back. I think something like Crash Bandicoot could be ported intact with no problems.

Well 8 Mbit = 1 mb so 512 mbit is only 64 mb, so now you can see the restrictions and the game wasn't really ported intact. They had to get rid of the static backgrounds because they took up too much space, so it looks a bit bland but fully 3D!!!

They didnt remove the static backgrounds. If anything they would have kept them as making them in 3D would have probably taken up more space. They could have used a better compression format, or even reduced the size of the backgrounds from 320x240 to *insert whatever the DS resolution is here*.

As I understand it, there are certain rooms which are 3D and some that are static. Inside these 3D rooms you have to go into first person view and kill some enemies. Once thats done it returns to the normal view. This only happens in certain rooms, so its not a constant thing.

RE2 for the N64 is a very good port and I prefer it to the PSX variant. My only issue is with the FMVs being a bit dodgey sometimes....but even then the FMVs always looked rather nasty to me.

And I thought they switched Biohazard Deadly Silence to full 3D because of the useage of First Person mode for the Knife in the remake mode.

Back on topic, I personally think alot of them could. Now if Square Enix would just port Front Mission 3 to the DS and add some multiplayer too it, that would make me a happy camper. :D

If the DS could hold a PS1 game theoretically it should be able to handle it. It has 33mhz processors (PS1 = 33.9) 4mb of RAM (PS1 = 2mb system 1mb VRAM) plus the screen is lower resolution. But this is theory because stats quote the DS doing 120,000 polygons per second 3X less than the PS1.Like I said Crash Bandicoot shouldn't be a problem :)

... and resi DS does seem to be half 3D with original textures shrunk.

DS cartridge sizes are expanding as well, so space shouldn't be too much of a problem soon.

Rub Rabbits 2 is the biggest DS title right now.
