Hello guys and girls (if any):110: I have a problem with my PS1. I think it is not a problem with the console itself, it is more with my TV, I believe. I am trying to play a PAL game on my NTSC PS1. My TV can only display NTSC as well. The problem is that the game will load in full color, but the screen will keep on moving up all the time, making it impossible to play the game. Is there a way to solve this problem? I've tried to backup the game and patch a copy to NTSC, but it didn't work. Is there a way to make the game display properly or do I have to change my TV?
The problem is the TV. It must be Tri-norma (NTSC / PAL / PAL-M). If it just NTSC / PAL-M it can't show the PAL video input correctly (that's why the mess on the screen) I don't know much about patching PAL to NTSC, because my PS2 modchip has a feature to force NTSC mode in PAL games.
you can get a pal to ntsc converter for ps2 for a few dollars, works on psone as well. It's shaped like an rf converter. An equally easy solution is to get a pc video capture usb device, it will accept any video.
When you boot a PAL disc in a NTSC PS1, it outputs a PAL signal at 50Hz. Some of the early PS1 models, with the CXA-1645M video encoder, would display the picture in b/w because of a bandpass filter. But you have color, so that is no problem for you Both PAL-M and NTSC have, as you know, 60Hz refresh rate. The PS1 outputs PAL at 50Hz and if your TV don't support it (50Hz), your picture will scroll. Make sure the converter you get, if you plan to buy one, handles refresh rate convertion. Most cheap PAL <-> NTSC converters only "convert" the color burst subcarrier in the composite video signal. Only the more expensive converters converts beetween 50Hz and 60Hz refresh rate. I can't recommend any converter that converts refresh rate in particular. Most of them are pretty bad, including the Samsung SV-5000W VCR I use myself. CF
