Hi, everybody! I've been having some problems with my ps1 for quite a while. After about 10 years me and my bud decided that we wanted to play ps1 again. It's chipped so we mostly played burned games, but we also had a couple of originals. But after a while it stopped reading ALL the burned games, only the originals. We've tried disk swapping, burning new copies, nothing worked. So we gave up then, but i've decided to surprise him for his birthday and try to repair it. Not sure which chip is inside. What could it be? Pardon my English, not an English speaker. Thanks in advance.
@master 991 I'm not able to do that at the moment, because i'm not gonna be in my hometown for about a month. :/ @dc16 I figured i should do the recalibration, since the original games run just fine, but i don't know how. :/
Yeah, it sounds like the laser's dying. The laser needs to try harder to read burnt discs when compared to originals which is what you're experiencing. Maybe try a burnt music CD and see if it plays that, if it doesn't then it's definately the laser and nothing to do with the modchip. Adjusting the lasers pot gives the laser more juice, effectively overdriving it a little. It may work for a while but will gradually get worse and worse and will possibly die completely one day.
First to play with laser, it's a good idea to check if chip have a bad connection with the motherboard. If it's an old crow can be the 5 pin or a bad link wire for example... Plus we haven't any necessary info. What do you mean burned games doesen't start? Hangs at black playstation logo, the sistem shows "please insert playstation disc" message or goes directly to bios screen?
I think it's an old crow, might be a bad link, i thought i should check that first. When i insert a burned disc it says 'please insert ps disc' and when i try disc swapping it stays on the black screen with the ps logo. Original games run with no problems.
It sounds like the laser is just dying if you ask me. You can keep adjusting the pots, if of course you use an oscilloscope as theirs more than just "adjust the pot" and one wrong adjustment can kill the laser. The burnt disks make the laser work harder and ultimately damages it. Soon your originals probably wont work either.
yes definitely do as Dreamcazman suggested try a burnt Music CD................. try cleaning the laser with Isopropyl Alcoho and when you try and boot a backup and it says "please insert playstation disc" message press Reset and see how that goes you may want to try my laser aligning method as well below is a link............. http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?51212-Playstation-SCPH-1002-not-playing-backups
Ok guys thanks a bunch for your effort, i'll try all of the things you've said one by one as soon as i can.
