So I just got a PSOne in today that included the famous screen. (Truth be told I only got it FOR the screen since the combo was cheaper than the screens alone...) I decided the first test was going to be on a Sega Genesis through RGB. So I wired it all up straight to ports. Now mind you, I know of the need for the capacitors and resistors to help with colors and sharpness but I figured it would be fine as a test run without them. It works! Only 2 small issues. 1) The Genesis image is smaller than the screen and it is shifted to the right and down a bit. This be due to the Genesis outputting 320x240 and the screen being 640x480? 2) I think this is due to the need of cleaning up the RGB signal. I noticed some garbage on the screen around the Genesis image in the border area. Usually on bottom either left or right side. Again, I think this is due to the need to clean the signals up.

Lastly some poorly taken pictures of my pissing around...

First off, what I mean by having a border around my screen.
Game is Sonic Classic Heroes for anyone wondering.

Secondly showing my desk with my mess scattered on it...
That is a model 2 VA0 with an Everdrive MD for anyone wondering.

EDIT: I found this out from more farting around.

The PS1 screen will take pure composite video as a C-SYNC signal with no ill effects.
This is good for me since I plan to use this screen with my model 3 at some point and I know how to get RGB out but not a dedicated C-SYNC line.
Now I can just use the composite line with no need for a Sync Stripper.

MORE EDIT: I also found the screen can run off voltages up to 10 VDC for sure with no problems. So should I make a sort of PS1 style thing out of my model 3, the brick it uses should power screen too. Or just go with the PS1 brick since my model 3 runs off the 7.5 V just fine.

Seems that no matter what I do, I can't kill the screen. Over-voltage, reverse polarity, composite video on the SYNC input, ect.

Overscan huh? I figured it was something built into the Genesis to cause the border. That still doesn't explain the off-center picture.

As for the hardware glitch causing the garbage in bottom border, I forgot about that completely...

So I'm still pondering over the lopsided picture since I don't think that's from overscan. Or is it?

Are you directly feeding it the RGB + SYNC (+ GND) signal from the Megadrive?

    Ummmm... Yeah...

I did say I wired straight to ports with no resistors or capacitors.

PS1 slim? There is something smaller than the PSOne?

More news on my setup. Biggest news flash is my model 2 runs off the 7.5 volt from the PSOne adapter with no issues. Have a video:

IIRC the 7805 wants a minimum of 7v to properly pipe out 5v so I'm not too surprised there. When the voltage gets much lower you start to have some very odd behaviors.

Yeah. I've since figured that the model 2 is strictly a 5 volt machine. The unregulated voltage only goes to the expansion port from the switched side and no where else. I believe the 32X is same way. Not sure on the CD systems or a model 1. If they are all 5 volt machines, it would seem more logical to ditch the regulators and go with a higher amperage 5 volt PSU. I have one that puts out up to 5 amps. Surely that would be enough for a model 2 Genny, 32X, CD combo.
