I'd just like to know a little bit about this chip: http://www.modchip.ca/store/product.php?productid=16822&cat=251&page=1 1.) Dose it work? 2.) Dose it TURN a USA system into NTSC-J format 3.) is it any good/worth the $20+ 4.) Going back to 1 and 3 if it isn't/dosen't, what would be a better chip/set that would make a PS1 with USA format play NTSC-J (Japanese) Games, don't care if after installing it that it wont play USA format games anymore and only Japanese games for I have two of them. Thanks for reading.
1) I'm sure it does since they probably burn MM3 code to it. 2) No, but you can play imports with one installed. 3) No. $20 is a huge profit margin for them though. 4) Buy a chip from myself (Northern California), Jinn (Southern California) or Bad_Ad84 (UK based). Much cheaper and the code used can be whatever is needed for a specific model. Not all code works the same on all PS1 models but for the most part MM3 is peachy.
ROFTL Stealth elite? A fake name for a common MM3 modchip. What are inventing sellers to sell... I'ts a normal common MM3 cheap modchip, it allow you to boot every region games and it's a stealth anti-mod detection tipe modchip. For me price it's very high. Are you from America? Contact Jinn and ask him for a Mayumi V4, or, a Mayumi V1 if you have an old scph 100X ; EDIT: Sorry APE answered in same time
Good thing I asked, and yes I am an American, the model I will be using to do the mod is a SCPH7501, so which one V4 or V1 how much are those, who might Jinn be I'm rather new here?
MM3 and Mayumi 4 are apparently the same, other than MM3 uses the internal oscillator and Mayumi gets it from the console itself.
Yes, MM3 it's copy\paste of the Mayumi V4. The only difference beetween the two chip code is that the MM3 use one wire less (7 Wires) but uses internal oscillator of the pic. It's the "commercial" version of the mayumi, less wire but less precise in the timing code esecution Mayumi uses the PIN 2 of the PIC connected on PSX CD controller (if i remember correctly) for the synchronization and timing with the PSX (in fact uses 8 wires).
Thanks for letting me know. Is this valid for all (old fat) PSX's or just certain models? I think i have that Mayumi V4 somwhere. Need to try it.
It should work on the vast majority of them. There are a few exceptions here and there but you're not likely to encounter them.
Hello Bad_Ad84 reading the forum you are based in the UK and have the knowledge and ability to still modchip PS1's 20 years on. i would like my PS1 SCPH 7502 chipped, what would be the cost. im also based in the uk. Thank you for your time. smudgesmith25136418@hotmail.co.uk
Your post was added to the auto moderation queue. You may find that happens again - just sit tight and a moderator will get round to approving it. Rather than bump a two year old thread, you'd be better off contacting him via the contact details in his signature. Including the link to his modchip sales thread in huge letters.
What real world benifits does using the consoles oscillator have over the on chip one? faster boots of imports??
