hi, a friend asked me if it's possible to get a VGA signal from a Playstation. I've readed that it's possible to get a RGB signal, but a VGA isn't possible since you need to modify the sync signal. This links show where is possible to get the H and V sync on the psx: http://nfggames.com/forum2/index.php?topic=3309.0 http://gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=av:playstation_1_sync So my question is: is it possible to do a VGA mod to a ps1?
http://www.assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?39221-List-of-PS1-game-resolutions VGA is 640x480 so a direct mod? Don't think so. You can stick a ps2 vga upscaler on a psone.
I did manage to get RGB out on my NTSC/U SPH-7501 and convert it to VGA using my GBS-8220: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/cga-ega-yuv-to-vga-arcade-hd-converter-pcb-gbs-8220-gbs-8220.html I've used the sync signal you've showed in first post. Be aware that the H-Sync is no VGA (31,5KHz) but instead CGA (15,6KHz). So you do need the converter/upscaler board to get to VGA. Image quality is better than Composite or S-Video but it's not that "stunning".
That's what i was thinking. Also i've read that some monitors support the 15,6 Khz signal, so you don't need the converter. Thank you!
pretty sure if you were crazy enough you could convert the digital rgb to vga... see the n64 video out mods...
My thoughts are that composite helped with the picture, by providing sort of an analog anti aliasing, something the ps1 lacked digitally. The crappier crt I plug mine into, the better looking it became, just my .02(you guys can get back on topic)
