Recently I noticed that my PS1 had started to get yellow.
I opened it up and noticed that there were black marks on the power board.
The yellowing seems to concentrate on this area on the bottom of the machine and somewhat on the top.

The machine still seems to run fine.

Looks like I should replace some parts though. Any ideas on which component failed to cause the mark?
    Is this common?

Looks like the black marks are a result of heat from that voltage regulator (looks like this) without a heatsink. If the PS1 is still working, it's probably not dead (or even dying yet). Replacing it 1:1 might be a waste of time because it may be attributed more to poor design than something that is failing.

For whatever its worth, the last PS1 I took apart did not show any heat distress like this. However, it was is pretty good condition...so it's possible it never saw much use.

So its safe to just keep using without replacing? Just clean it up?

You could install a heatsink on that voltage regulator its pretty easy
