    Hi,

my PS2 (fat) 50004 does not read discs anymore. In the browser menu it shows for a second reading cd/dvd when I insert any, but it does not spin up nor shows the disc on screen. Regardless of movie DVD, audio CD or game.

I disassembled it and confirmed, that it is not spinning. The red laser diod blinks up for a second. And nothing follows. I tried to spin up a disc manually, once it reached its position. That looked somewhat promising. Now the drive tried to spin the discs several times slowly for a very short time before spinning it fast and for a long time, while laser was steadily glowing, but without the magnet on top, of course, it could not really spin the disc, but it spinned it out of position and kept running the motor.

But hey, laser and motor seem okayishly okay. So... do you have any clue why it does not recognize any disc (without spinning it manually). It happend suddenly after years of laying around unused.

    Kind regards
    Franny

Thanks. Seems like it, after some reading. (Was not sure, as the eject button/funtionality still works.) What are the chances the laser is okay? Would it make sense to replace both once you are on it?
