I got a component cable for my PS2 slim today as I'm using an LCD TV. I'm very happy with the results, playing Black at 576i resolution is very nice indeed. There is one issue however, the cable causes problems with PS1 games. Final Fantasy VII for example boots fine until the squaresoft logo appears at which point the screen is heavily interlaced. If I load up a save I can get a solid picture back by switching my TV to another channel and then back to Component. However when moving the character parts of the screen ghost and follow him. Any way to fix this, I can manage with RGB for PS1 games but it would be nice not to switch the cables around all of the time. Thanks.
Lol, wrong choice of words perhaps. Basically it's like using TV mode on an emulator. You can see a gap between every horizontal line.
I would try using another TV as well. Maybe your TV has problems with low resolution through component? Hopefully not, but LCD TV's usually "don't like" anything below 640x480.
^ yea, most LCD's wont accept 240P which is what a lot of ps1 games are. I would look into something like the XRGB-3 for 240p games (ps1 and below and some ps2 games) for playing on an LCD. Now if you were playing on a PS3, it would Auto-Upscale the games for you and you wouldn't have a problem.
I've had bad experiences with PS2 running PS1 games in component. On my 32" Trinitron, it looked like Final Fantasy VII had heavy scanlines. I've heard that the PS3 upscales PS1 games quite well.
Scanlines...that's the word I was looking for. Yeah I have FF7 on my PS3 Network account but I have no PS3, sold it to my brother before I went travelling, I want it back so bad.
Back in the UK. In the past two years I've been to Korea, China, Japan, Canada, Ireland, Thailand, Singapore and Australia.
