(PS2) Contra Shattered Soldier late beta

The files on this disc mostly date back to June 2002, while the files on retail disc date a few months later. I got this disc from someone who used to be part of a waning trade group, with friends at gaming magazines/websites.

This pre-release of Contra Shattered Soldier circulated on various other forums, most of them are down. It was distributed quite a bit amongst the users there. You can use a modded PS2 or a disc-swapping trick. Maybe PS2 emulators, also. Do note that this beta is quirky. It won't boot if a memory card is in the slot; people have reported other booting issues, though not everyone. I haven't tested it due to hardware limitations and though a disc check suggests it's good, tell me if you encounter any problems with the rip.

Do you know if it works with FMCB and ESR Patched?

 

Sorry, I don't. Somebody on another forum mentioned running it through an ADR patcher, though.

Ok. So then we need to convert it with the cd to DVD Tool and then patch with ESR

 

Changed it up to be a DVD based game. Holy fucking shit. This game is embarrassingly hard. I felt it was with fucking me.

Yeah, CSS is a CD-based game; I'm surprised it needs to be put on a DVD, though. Is it at all related to the general problem many PS2's have with reading CD games? And this is interesting considering the promo disc thread I made a bit earlier.

Looking at threads about this beta at cdrom-guide and other forums. Everybody had so much trouble getting it to work back then. Some got it to play on CD's, others on DVD.

It turns out this beta had a private/limited release by a group called 1-Hit Wonderz. However, I'm unable to find that anywhere. So this is more of a public re-release.

 

Well Didn't have any trouble with it, using CD-R in first try.

 

Good to know. The important thing is it works. I'm wondering what, if any, the differences are. My guess would be text-based differences and maybe some bugs/glitches present.
