So I installed a modbo 4.0 in a PS2 slim 77004 with a GH-052-32 motherboard. Soldering went smoothly and everything looked great if I do say so myself.

No shorts and none of the vias broke during the installation. I had to glue the chip in place since there wasn't a flat space on this motherboard to place the modbo 4.0 nearby.

After assembling, I checked that I could access the chip's configuration menu by holding triangle and circle. That worked fine. Next I tried booting a game but that didn't work at all. I popped in a game and it didn't spin the disc. This was really weird but luckily I had a spare drive I could try instead, just to rule that out. This didn't work either.

I removed the top, clicked on a game and tried pressing both lid buttons, but sure enough the disc doesn't spin at all.

So with the drive swapped the next logical thing would be to remove the chip and see if that resolves the problem. So I did just that, and the disc still doesn't spin :( Wtf? So I guess the chip fried something on the PS2? Is there anything I can do to fix this? I've had trouble with chip installation on PS2s before when I wasn't as skilled with a soldering iron, but nothing this strange :/

This is the installation guide I followed (the left one):

Really annoying. This is my friends PS2 I apparently just messed up. So if I can't get it working again, the only solution will be to give him mine (which I also chipped myself), and I wasn't really looking to part ways with that any time soon :(

Check the Drive controller chip, RS2006EFV.

Hi thanks for the suggestion, but how do I check if it's working or not? :)

Have you checked all the fuses on the motherboard? If you are lucky it could just be a blown fuse for the drive controller circuit.

Just a guess without checking but it's probably the PS11 fuse. I think that's the closest fuse to the mecacon controller.

I checked everything marked "PS" but they all worked. Are there any fuses that are not labeled PS?

I think the fuses are all marked PS as far as I can see. Beside if any other fuses than the mecacon controller circuit one had blown I'm sure you would notice other symptoms like BSOD or something.

As far as I can think of the only way to test if the mecacon controller is blown is to replace it but I would only try as a last resort when all other possibilities are exhausted, unless someone else knows an easier way to test it.

Did you by any chance connect or disconnect the drive from the mother board whilst it was powered on at any time? That's a sure way to blow the mecacon controller if so. I know this from experience as I have done it a couple of times in the past and had to replace it.

You should have done Hard drive method with Network Adpator. Same time doing Mod chip.

I didn't. But when I tested to see if the chip was working I didn't assemble it completely. I might have left the lens and/or motor cables disconnected. Could that be what caused it?

Not really. First of the PS2 slim has a built in network adapter and no room for a HDD. Second, even with a harddrive you wouldn't be able to play imported PS1 games. Not to my knowledge at least :)

It should be okay to power it up with the drive cables disconnected. It's just if you try to unplug/plug the drive in/out while the console is powered like I did.

If i'm not mistaken, replace it with a new chip.

Thank you :) I'll try and order one of these and see if that makes a difference.
