    Problems with a drawer on a PS2

Something could be in the way, a gear could be stripped along the line or a bit of plastic moved into the threading.

Tear it apart and look at the various wheels inside under tray. Just about everything to do with opening and closing it is right there and in plain sight. My guess would be a stripped gear but it could be something got in the way.

Does it make a grinding noise when opening/closing? Might need some oiling.

    No is quiet

Don`t want to really have to open it up though, but may be the only way.

Still waiting for video.google to verify the video before posting it here. Anyone that is quicker to host video....is there you_tube?

I had that exact same problem, only my system was put in less competent hands when it came to repairs. After finally accepting that my old-style silver PS2 had finally been damaged even further, in the end I paid for a new slimline model. What shocks me is just how critical many of you are of Sony's hardware and the company's reliability, as I had managed to live happily with my original PS2 for nearly two years before what seemed a minor problem ultimately led to me buying a replacement. As for my PS, that's still alive and kicking after nearly ten years - so much for the fear of having to place it on its side as a precaution against the disc mechanism from melting!

This might be me, but I don't consider 2 years to be a long term: except for my PSP(motherboard died after 2 months T_T ) I have never had a broken console..

I think I've had my PS2 for about 3 years with no *serious* troubles. I do vaguely recall a CD not working in one instance or two but thats it. I've also heard that the HDD lets a LOT of strain off of the lens, too.

if worse come to worse, just replace teh top with a flip top cover, also handy if you want to use a swap disc to play imports on a ps2.

It's a TEST by the looks of the video - Noooooo don't open it.

Think you may have to though. If you're worried about the warranty sticker, heat it up with a hairdryer and it pops right off.

My lil brothers had theirs for almsot 3 years until the fan died and then the laser started giving out DREs. I tried fixing it but the fan was AWOL and the laser wouldn't work anymore so I just went a pawnshop and bought a slightly used one for $80, came with Broadband network.

I was well inmpressed @ first saying it was a TEST, but then I can see the T on it :)

There is no warranty sticker on it.....and to be honest never looks like there was ever one on it...perhaps as I think it is one of the first ones

Oh it's the DTL-H10000 (yeah they never had stickers on them).

I'll buy it off you if you are going to be relegating the little chap to TEST station heaven.......
