Hey guys, this is my first post here so apologies in advance if there's a similar thread around. I did search for it. I recently bought a PS2 Debugging unit (DTL H30001). As soon as I got it I tried it out and it was reading both PS1 and PS2 discs (tried NTSC US and J games) although the disc tray would not close completely unless I "pushed it up" a bit once retracted. The console was pretty dusty so I opened it up and did a general cleaning. After re-assembling it though the DVD drive is completely non-responsive. It makes no sound whatsoever and won't spin or eject. If I press the eject button with the system in standby it turns on, which leads me to believe the connecting cables are fine (to the buttons). I'm not very knowledgeable at all (maybe shouldn't have opened it in the first place) but it seems to me it's a communication thing rather than the drive being broken. As far as the cleaning I did, it was mostly compressed air and washing the plastic parts, I didn't apply any products to any sensitive areas at all. I'd really appreciate any suggestions or info about what could be the problem or possible fixes to try out. I can also post pictures. Also, (VERY dumb question) if I were to replace the whole drive with a regular PS2 one, would it still be region free or is the lock somehow related to the drive itself? Thank you very much in advance for any help. Cheers
I had the same issue with a normal PS2. For me it was a blown disc motor fuse, but my unit was ejecting anyway. Checking the fuses could help, I don't have anymore guesses what could be wrong.
Thanks man, I'll check the fuses to make sure. I think I may just buy a cheap PS2 and try to replace the whole drive.
