Well i adjusted the Tangential Skew and decreased disc boot times, i adjusted the Radical Skew which decreased them even further, boot time for GTA San Andreas NTSC was 24 seconds, down from 35ish, but then it wouldn't play pal games properly so i set the Radical Skew back to default and it's a little slower but all good.
The laser now reads burned CD-R's and the clicking noise on boot is gone.

It still takes a fair time to boot but it's not a major issue, although PS1 games boot almost instantly.

My laser is KHS-400B i found one on eBaY

Used of course but i doubt i will find a new one that's genuine. Can you use a standard 3.5HDD and use a PS2 HDD Disc? because i could master patch it if it's not PAL, i know there is a Final Fantasy HDD Bundle.

    I appreciate all the help sp193 :)

You don't strictly need to get a genuine one, unless you want to go that route. I don't know how "used" this new laser is, so beware that it might already have wear.

You can use a standard ATA disk with it, although doing so will mean that you cannot use official Sony software with it. Only homebrew and ATAD-patched Sony software will work with a normal ATA disk.

Well he said it's fully working but he doesn't know how used it was, I'm gonna go for it anyway my one is pretty much dead it seems.

I think i'll buy the official Final Fantasy HDD bundle so i can use the HDD for saves etc.

Only a handful of titles support saving to the HDD unit directly. Are you aware of that?
