First, what model do you have?
    Pentium 233 or Celeron?

You will have to open the Tool, use the disassembly guide in the sticky threads.
There should be 2 hdds in the Tool, swap the IDE cables and give it a try, it might work...

If you want to restore the original hdd, I have a dump available at http://lorezan.free.fr/toolhdd/
Get toolhdd1.gz and the utilities if you need them (g4u, ftpserv and tftpd32)
I used http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/ to make the dump, read the docs and have fun!

    Hi

Sorry for the late replay (time-zone difference :p)

The other HDD is also empty -__- , so i will try to restore the original HDD with your dump but i still don't know how to get those files working because it does not read burned discs...

(sorry i am new at this , never worked with a TOOL before)

I believe you use a PC to write the clone image to the PS2 HDD, no burning disks needed.

    Hi Again! :)

Started to try it again to install Linux on my PS2 TOOL but still can't get it to work , it looks easy in the doc file but i can't get the FTP and DHCP server to work , is there an easier way to do this locally without any server involvement? o_O

Or maybe a stupid question , is it possible to hook up an external CD-rom drive that CAN read burned discs ?

You can transfer the dump to the hdd directly using dd and gzip, you'll have to plug the hdd on your computer obviously...

Another question , on the g4u website doc file , it says that i need to boot g4u on the machine where i need to dump the hdd image.

But how do i boot g4u on the PS2 TOOL ... , can't seem to figure that out.

My PC is running a FTP server now , and i can also try my NAS as an FTP server if my PC server does not work.

If you want to use g4u, open the Tool and connect an IDE cd-rom drive or a floppy drive...but it will be slower than connecting the Tool hdd directly to an another computer to transfer the dump.

    Okay , i understand now , i will try it! :)

Another question , can the PS2 TOOL also see external USB Floppy drives or CD-rom drives? , i guess not but can't hurt to ask :p

The USB ports on the front are part of the PS2 side, so if you have a PS2 software that supports such USB devices (like the PS2 Linux installed on the external PCMCIA hdd), yes.
The PC side (SBC card where the 1st hdd is connected) doesn't have USB ports and doesn't support booting from the network either, atleast this model doesn't...
    Here's the manual: http://lorezan.free.fr/ps2/PCI-586HVE-S-M1.pdf

Ah that explains it , that is why the USB ports on the front do not work :)
    Thank you for that manual!

    See you
