Is it possible to fix dualshock 2 controllers? I have 2 with problems. On the first one, the triangle and circle buttons don't work. On the second, none of the buttons other than the up d-pad seem to work. I've seen youtube vids saying put a piece of paper in between the button and rubber but I don't think that's the case here. Is there anything I can try to get them working?
Open your ps2 controller, get access to the part of the PCB under the broken buttons. Then, with a lead pencil, simply "color" the contactors under your broken buttons - it will add some carbon on it.
Ah thanks for the tip. Just tried that but didn't work unfortunately. I have just noticed that whilst removing and reseating the ribbon cable with the controller plugged in, it sends the commands for the triangle and circle buttons to the console ok. So not sure if there's something there that needs looking at or whether it is just where the buttons are pressed.
PS2 controllers don't have PCBs. They have flexible mats which run the buttons and sensor assemblies. The only thing that is on a PCB on a PS2 controller is the chip which encodes the buttons for transmitting to the PS2... So, faulty buttons are more than often caused by a bad flexible mat. Sadly they're made that way to not be repairable.
Are you sure of this? Because the 2 DS2 I own (both official ones) are different from this inside. Second one I own - bought 2 years ago maybe - is the same as you described - some kind of plastic mat inside - quite cheap and easy to broke indeed. But the other one , from what I remeber, which came with my SCPH 50004, has a PCB inside. Well, off topic end, that doesnt help our friend.
Fakes do exist, sadly. Can you post pictures of the controller with a PCB ? Btw, there are fakes with PCB and fakes with the plastic film too.
Cant be a fake one, I said it came with my SCPH 50004 PS2 unit (FFX + Tekken 4 bundle btw), brand new when I bought it. I will try to find the time to tack pics. Edit : okay buddy, I just opened it, and you were right. I feel lucky I did not bet my hand. :biggrin-new:
Yeah I'm thinking the controllers are just buggered and can't be fixed... unless... would it work if I took the thin plasticy circuit board from a non dual-shock controller?
Unfortunately you were victim of a store run by "a jerk of a clerk". Sadly they more than often bundle a fake controller along with the original one which comes with the unit. Sorry about the funny... lol
Non dual shock controllers will aways be of PCB type, sadly. Also the PS2 controller is special because the plastic mat is made for pressure sensing buttons.
Sorry, but I lead you to misunderstood what I said. You were right about the fact there is no PCB in PS2 DS2. Mine have a plasticy circuit board. Might be a true one. Nevermind, it's pointless.
