Actually the detailed information is from Silverbull when he analyzed the HDD OSD to figure out how it loads the bootable partitions.

Turns out he figured out that it supports booting either from a file within the partition (normal method used by SONY licenced games that boot from the HDD) or from a KELF file put outside of the filesystem area (method he uses on KERMIT) and to make it possible he had to analyze the whole thing down.

yeah i wonderd how he did that, as hdl partition dont use standart pfs partition(from which the osd could normaly boot) as far as i know for storing the game iso.

Unfortunately, mutiplying 400000 by 200 or 512 still gets me nowhere. I just end up in a place with no header.

Richi, any help with my last post? Please explain the parts that I do not understand.

the partition header is sector 0.

then winhex displays sectors as "grey borders" around the right text field, so its easy to determine, just count the first sector after 0(after the partition header) as 1

    and there you go.

All right, the sectors/offests are no longer a problem, thank you. So I followed oliveira's tutorial and pasted the data at sector 8, save and unplug my HDD. I then copy the bootkelf.elf to the partition with uLaunchELF and reboot to the HDD OSD, but the icon still shows as corrupted. What could the problem be?

Since this didn't work for me, I tried richi's tutorial, but got the same results. Buth since he did not provide icon data to use, I used bmp2icon to make my own icon and pasted it at sector 11 as stated in the tutorial. It was a lot to copy over and went on for many sectors. After saving and putting the HDD back into my PS2, then copying BOOT.ELF (I renamed the bootkelf.elf to this for richi's tutorial) and rebooting to the HDD OSD, I got the same results.

thats really strange.....i guess it has to be the icon, on which sector did you write it?

edit: oops just saw it, sector 11. you could try sector 12 as i've been once told by l_oliveira, but it didnt worked for me so i used sector 11.

Could you please upload the icon that you used? Maybe mine is incompatible for some reason. Maybe it was bigger than it should have been.

Thank you for that. I haven't had time to test it recently but will try to give it another go later today. Could you please also upload the icons that you used for ESR and OPL?
