I just put a ghost case on a Filthy PS2 Fat I got From Goodwill and cleaned up. I was hoping to put a couple of led strips into it. Been scouring the web but can’t seem to find where a good point to solder into would be for power since the fan and other wired parts I don’t believe to be 12v that I could simply splice into like my. Box leds.

Any ideas? Or maybe I should get different LED’s than planned?

You can tap 12v from the PSU board

the problem with tapping into the psu directly is that it is continuously powered when the system is plugged in, so if you connect leds into it, they would be lit 24/7 unless the system is plugged off the wall or the master power switch from the back is toggled off.

i added a fan into mine using the 12V pins of the psu and it works just fine, I solved the continuous power issue by adding a switch for the fan itself.

I don't know much about the ps2, but there must be a logic line somewhere (on the power button pcb?) that tells the ps2 when to turn on/off. Maybe you could add a transistor on that line and use it to control your LEDs, that way they would switch on/off with the console.

If there's only a momentary signal that triggers on/off you could add a cheap microprocessor to sniff that signal and switch the transistor. It's only a couple of external components and would save you needing to install a switch into the case of the console.

Maybe i'm just missing it but I can't find that spot. Done a bunch of research and the Fats have a few different types of PSU's, so guess ill need to determine which model I have first.

I have way too many consoles to have my PS2 plugged in all the time. It's one of the ones I pull out when needed, since a few other consoles have "priority" of being hooked up to TV all the time. so I don't mind it on whenever plugged in.

Have you checked out the service manual for your model? If there wasn't one for your exact model leaked, then try referring to the closest possible.

the point on the picture is from the underside of the PSU pins that connect the PSU to the PS2 motherboard.
it should be rather straightforward to find.

OK, now I got it. The boards shown above is a different version, but now I know it's just back side of pins..I got ya. Sorry to be dense, clicked when I just saw a few guys posted they just stuffed the wires into the pin receptacle..lol. Appreciate all the help folks, sorry I was a tad slow to pick this one up. Thanks again.

It's always the obvious things that are the hardest to spot :p
