I have come across multiple ps2 fat consoles where the tray tries to open and failed, it's almost as if the magnet is too strong and won't break free from the spindle hub, what could be causing this, i have seen this happen with lots of these consoles, could it be the rubber drive belt has stretched? Or is their another solution
It's usually the rubber belt. Try putting the rubber belt in boiling water for 5 mins then dry. This can tighten the belt. If it's still loose then replace.
x2 on this. My sister blames me for ruining her PS2 drive because I used the swap trick on it a few times to play burned PS1 games, when really it's more likely to be because of the age of the console. Regardless, I'd like to fix it.
This site sells replacement parts http://store.richspsxparts.com/dvddrtrgebe.html Not sure if Xbox replacement belts might work as well. As for disk swapping, just get a flip top case or install a modchip to save your drive gears/ belts.
