Did PS2 games receive official releases in Russia (with translation of text, etc. to Russian)? I haven't been able to find information on this. I seen videos on youtube of PS2 games that have been translated to Russian; wondering if these are just unofficial translations which are put on disc and sold.
Well there was PS1 original russian exclusives made but not any PS2 ones that i'd know so far, but there is ton of bootlegs made over there though
I don't mean PS2 titles exclusive to Russia. As in games that were released worldwide, but they were officially translated and released in Russia.
ohh, then my guess would be unofficial bootlegs that has that or sometimes usually a few Multi-PAL released games would have the Language menu that'll let you select it to German.
I had russian versions of Primal and Punisher (last one was collector's edition) and there was a few other games (mostly movie-based or sports crap though) officially released in Russia with russian translation. And a few PAL multi-language games had russian language, one of the last was MotorStorm Arctic Edge. There was a game that was developed in Russia and got cancelled at about 90%, and i think i'll be able to get a beta later (in a few months, some shots and info will be earlier). It was an arcade space sim with a bit of trading etc - Privateer/Freelancer-like game with HUGE capital ships and space stations.
Very few PS2 games got an official release there, huh. There's a similar situation with PS1 games, from what I've read.
I had a little look into it in regard to a Russian Drakengard version I saw, seems that most of them are very the result from a very dedicated hacking and localization community. Some of the games were hacked to even have completely Russian voice acting too, I was pretty surprised but I asked one of my Russian co-workers and the general response was that localization isn't really cared for specifically for them so they usually get whatever English or multi-language release version that's been released, imported a copy or just pirated it.
do have a retail copy of 'Jak X'...(shared elsewhere, google may help but i can't take the chance linking submission here) disk id: ^^ and it has russian vox locale, didn't try to see if there was a text one. (as i only know two languages, english and BAD english) any vocal output can be done with english text remaining. (das boot and red october anybody?) ... that's one game with russian vox locale, and i can confirm it by having the disk. (and the ringcode above is unique to my disk alone, NOT region id in braces) not sure if it was an actual russian relz, can't see why not if the game has an embedded locale for em. :smile-new:
