    Hi guys,

I'm new to the boards and am just starting a collection of PS2 games. Does anyone have some recommendations of rare or obscure games I should be looking out for? I'm concentrating on retail releases at the moment but will consider titles from all over the world. I also have a soft spot for box sets.

    Thanks

Oh wow. I guess of the approx. 4000 different PS2 titles on the world, there are at least 500 really good and worth to own. You might add another 1000-1500 for special interest values. Plus if you would count all the boxsets and limited/special editions ever released, you would have a 4-digit number as well.

The best thing would be if you told us about your preferences, in any way though you should be able to spot the best games via using several review pages better. That'd for sure be more efficient than asking here :)

    Thanks for the tips mate.

I've got a good idea of the best games and I think I've picked up quite a few of them already. I'm more interested in the obscure/interesting games that might not have shown up on my radar.

I like rpg's and I've picked up quite a few of them already.

I would guess Marketplace board abuse. His very first posts were WTB messages.

I'd say start with boxed LE and tin case editions...
there were a lot of 'em released in boxed LE for both US/JP/EU markets... so have fun tracking 'em down~

Yeah, but half of those "limited edition" ones turn up very frequently and command no more than the regular version. In fact, often they're no more than a metal tin with the same contents... maybe a making of DVD if you're 'lucky'!

The most sought after games of the future will probably be the really crap games that are sitting in supermarket bargain bins all over the world right now. Most of those games will probably end up in a skip as they are that crap that no one will fork out the £1.99 the supermarkets are asking for.

    Today's tat = tomorrows collectables....

If I were to guess why that happens, I'd say it's because there were fewer owners of those bad games.

its because no one (especially in 2008) wants crap games for the PS2. People will rather buy good games for like the same price on eBay or get a PS3 or something.
So those games sell in very limited quantities, which makes them more rare in the future. They wont be very expensive though, since they are crap after all ;)
