Is it possible to use a single HDD in the PlayStation2 for the PS2 Linux Kit and the HDLoader? Linux shouldn't be the problem because you can manually create partitions during the installation process. However I don't know if that's possible in HDLoader or HDAdvance or whatever it's called.
Yes it's possible. I don't remember where's the tutorial about it, but i think you need to install Linux first, and then leave one space (size you want) without format. HD Loader would only recognize this, format on it's way, and games would be installed there. HDLoader 0.8C is what you want. Look for it online.
Johnny, you're right and wrong at the same time Let me explain, the Linux 1.0 discs (the 2 discs set) uses the same partition model as a PC, wich is not compatible with the way Hdloader (and official Sony tools) handle the hdd (called APA for Aligned Partition Allocation). The linux beta disc, on the other hand, uses the APA partition model natively. So you have two ways to do it: -install the beta version and use hdloader directly on the unpartitioned hdd space -install the version 1.0 and follow one of the following tutorials: http://playstation2-linux.com/projects/apa http://achurch.org/ps2/
oh, that procedure does look really complex. Isn't there an easier way with one of those HDD tools, like WinHIIP?
The only disadvantage I found in using the beta release was that it doesn't seem to support the 'DTV' (component output) display option, which the 1.0 release does. Using component output with the linux kit lets you run linux with a pretty reasonable display quality (way better than regular TV, though not as good as VGA can give you), without the need to change cables when you switch between running linux/playing games off the HDD.
Beta Linux is useing PS2 partition model. Linux 1.0 is normal Linux partition very different between 2 ver. mount BB Navigator and PS2 Game install data, only Beta Linux can....
