I just got hold of a few of these discs, yet they are not recognized by my PC Pioneer drive & Imgburn (Incompatible media installed) so wondered is there a way of using these with conventional hardware or I'm I stuck with these? I know Sony mastered their in-house QA discs with these using CD/DVD generator via standalone burners, yet I was under the impression that these discs were just a typical brand of DVD-R with just their company logo and product name printed on them. Do these use a special disc ID that is only recognized with Sony approved QA burners?
krisk, can i get a high rez scan of that disk? im not sure as to why it wouldn't load on a standard dvd-r burner unless you need one of a specific vintage....
I'll try and get some up later, if it helps. I just tried one in my old XP pc with another Pioneer 118 drive and imgburn detected the disc showing "Taiyo Yuden" as the disc ID, yet nothing could be written to the disc (disc not empty message) even though the discs are brand and new factory sealed. @RaZiel Would you know how to get these to work or have any info on them? Thanks
This is the info I have managed to grab from Imgburn using a old burner on XP. Might be that they are mastered in such a way that they are unreadable normally by a PC. If there is some sort of utility that will allow looking at discs through the ps2, I'd recommend that, but for the moment, I know of no such utility. Try using some sort of linux VM to look at the contents. Also, sony made some of their own DVDs, so they might have made DVD-Rs that are dual layer, but I don't know exactly.
That's odd, DVD-R never had dual layer as far as I know. And the part number 47PS suggests it's indeed single layer. 47=4.7GB PS=PlayStation?
You need a DVD-R mastering / authoring drive http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-DVR...529465?hash=item53ee4119f9:g:fD0AAOSweW5VTOcQ They are not same as normal drive. Also I am worried what you are making on an authentic dvd-r, I hope not fakes.
More background info on what ASSEMbler mentioned: https://webcache.googleusercontent....eralvsAuthoring.pdf+&cd=3&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=nl Looking up the media ID, there's no indication of it being an authoring DVD-R though: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia?dvdmediadvdridsearch=TAIYOYUDEN..
Authoring disks are still read the same as normal media. Its only the writing thats different. So if they have anything on them, you would be able to read them. But they are usually very clearly labelled as "for authoring" discs I have the S201 drive that assembler has linked to as well. Edit: Sorry, going off a comment above I thought you were looking to see if theres any data on them. But you quite clearly say they were new/sealed.
Those S201 drives are quite expensive and for burning 27 master discs (total of blanks I have) does not justify the price, as I probably wont use the drive afterwards. The ones I have seen are just the bare drive, so is it just a SCSI cable/SCSI card and PSU I'd have to track down?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Pioneer-D...014488?hash=item4643c9e0d8:g:KXoAAOSwvgdW2fXx I offered £45 and they accepted it. PSU is built in, its just a standard power lead. Just need a SCSI card and lead, I paid about 15 for those.
