To be fair it might not be directly the mod chip but here is my problem! I am playing legit and copied games (PS1) on my PS2, which is modded with a chip. Now everything technicly is fine, games run 1st time, there is a new jap laser in unit and all good. However the problem comes once finishing up with a game; heck only moments after an initial boot up the problem starts. Once there has been a boot up if I reset/power off the console to either play the same game or a different one, copy or legit the same thing happens. its as if I am playing the wrong region/not PS disc game. I get this message "please insert a playstation or playstation 2 format disc." remember folks this is even with a legit game. I have an NTSC PS2 but with the mod in theory it unlocks the regions? so I own some PAL and NTSC games, so have tried with both region discs same difference, wrong format disc. But here is the thing that will really bake your noodles! If I wait 10 to 15 mins and then try a game it runs perfectly. Now one thing I do want to add is for some reason legit games of NTSC format dont run at all, although with copy's of NTSC games a fair few do actually work. ALL UK games n copys work. One other thing to add is this 15 min wait doesnt seem to be with excess power in unit as I tried taking power out totally then rebooting to see if it made difference; and none at all. I always have to wait before booting up system again. it cant be overheating at all as its all well ventelated runs for hours on end. Also the fact that I tried a cold system on a reboot moments after trying a game so effectlvy the fat PS2 is still cold. So what could it be? The laser reads the games fine so not that, the machine doesnt appear to overheat or have time to if testing different games in succession, so any other theories? I'm all ears. I thought maybe its the connecting pins of the chip but why then does it always work after 15 mins? Thanks in advance if anyone can help
What modchip is this and are you sure it was wired in correctly with short wires? I've seen long wires on modchips do some weird stuff such as kill audio (got me) and have PS1 games get recognized as PS2 games and PS2 games get recognized as DVD movies.
thanks for the reply; I just asked the guy I bought it off in the US what type of chip it is, when he lets me know I will get back to you. The wire thing sounds intersting.. hope your right, be nice to get it fixed.
Did you buy it USED or a PRE-MOD from a chip installer? Find out which chip and let use know the SCPH-#####
Hi I bought a Pre mod from a practicly new PS2; I tell you when I saw this thing it could have been new. I then personally decided I'd like a new laser in unit so got one installed professionally (this was because FMV sequences were skipping slightly on a copy) after that apart from my problem mentioned above and waiting 15 mins between plays its been fine. The guy emailed me back about the chip; it is "DUO 3 GOLD" I dont know anything about installing chips. I do a have two techie friends who can do stuff like proper soldering and installing stuff.. so they might be able to help me with what ever advice I get from here. Thanks very much again guys!
That chip i have in my scph-30003 frist gen ps2 and ps2 and scph-70003 has duo 3 ultra gold and works nicely. Is your ps2 a slim maybe the laser controller on its way out maybe. Or maybe a refurbished laser and not a new official Sony laser part can be the problem.
thanks for your reply, yes I on my research I did read about the laser isues with refurbished and new 3rd party models (kinda reminds me of N64 thumbsticks lol) Anyway I have a fat US PS2 model no. scph-50001 if that helps? The laser though is brand new, I need to find out from the company that installed it weather it is original or refurbished. The thing is technicly speaking the laser runs perfectly on games no skipping on FMV etc.. music fluid; its just after I boot a game I have to wait 15 min before another games is able to play.. which is why I think maybe it is to do with the chip; but all comments are taken into concideration. First thing I want to check is the long wires on the chip like someone so kindly mentioned before; sounds like a good starting point. maybe I should look at getting an ultra gold chip? is it better than normal gold?
Maybe it's a stupid answer but you have check for the solder joint for antistatic disturbance? http://china-webstore.over-blog.com/article-11326674.html If you want change the chip Buy a modbo from Bad_Ad84. In any case control if there's shorts on motherboard and if there's something wrong with heat dissipation...
I will look at that too thanks for the new idea; and I dont think its stupid not heard of that chip sounds interesting I thought that but the guy that installed the chip was quite adament if it was overheating I wouldnt be able to play console at all hmm also it is well ventelated.. but I did think of buying one of those sit on fan things that came out for playstation3
I suggest you that chip (modbo V4) because i think it's one of the best modchip for ps2, also it's the best clone of the matrix infinity. I've already bought one from Bad_Ad84 (the price it's imbattible :asd) and installed on my scph5000X and work like a charm Maybe a picture of the installa can help us to help you XD
The Duo3 Gold has a power issue with some PS2 hardware and require the use an alternate power point on the chip. This is what you might need to do for your chip.
thanks everone for the replys especially Jinn; your last comment about the alternate power point on chip sounds like the most likely course.. I will look into it with my tech mate. I'll update the thread when I get it sorted to let everyone that helped me know how it went (if you wanna know that is) might be a while though as my mate is moving etc.. so I'll give him time space to do that.
