I found Everquest Online Adventures in EBGames for only 1cent. No word of a lie.

I'm a big fan of EQ for the PC, and figured I could give this game a try. The serial hadn't been registered and Sony are letting me sign up with it, so it would appear the game was new! The only thing stopping me now is the lack of a network adaptor.

How much should I expect to pay for one of these things, and is anyone here selling one for a reasonable price? Also - will I need to ensure it comes with a network setup disc or will EQ Online Adventures have a setup feature on the disc?

    Thanks for any replies :)

I think the network disc comes with its own code that lets you go online which is why its not always a good idea to buy one off ebay as they might be banned from Sony Online (though I might be wrong :p)

Thanks Pikkon. I'm going to check to see what happens with my EQ disc before taking you up on the kind offer because I am led to believe that is all I need (with an adaptor, of course!), but we'll see.

EBGames has one adaptor left, used, so hopefully it hasn't been banned from the service. That issue never even occured to me before, but if it doesn't work I suppose I could always get a refund. I'm going to get it today if it's around 15 bucks.

Well they are like $20 at EB or Best Buy, etc. And they all come with their own network disc setup.

Don't worry, the Network Adaptor does come with a Setup Disc where you can register your Onlinegaming Handle and setup your Connection on the PS2.

    This is incorrect.

As for EQ, that game (along with many others) has the online setup functionality on the disc. It is very rare that you need an original NA setup disc these days.

Well, you can setup a Connection on every PS2 Onlinegame.
On some Games you need a "Centralstation" Handle which is a Nickname like on Xbox Live and that Nickname can only be created by using a Newtwork Disc.

But you don't need a Central Station Handle on Everquest so don't worry. :)

Oh OK. Its been a while since I looked into networking my PS2, I just remember something about the whole DNAS thing. http://playstation2.onlineconsoles.com/phpBB2/guides_getonline_playstation2.php
I dont know much about how the PS2 hardware works, but the MAC address on PCs is unique to the network card, so I thought it might be the same with the PS2 ones.

Not exactly (at least for NTSC|U/C releases). Check this list (don't know if it's 100% accurate)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_2_network_games_containing_setup_utility

Again, not exactly. Central Station is only for PAL territory. There's no such thing for NTSC|U/C or NTSC|J releases. Sony is just weird. Every region has it's own network "thing".

Thanks for all the replies. In the end I decided to buy it new with the disc from Best Buy for $20. That seemed like the best (safest) option.

Unfortunately I can't get the old portable Mitsubishi TV here to work through the RF cable I bought from ebgames, it displays a picture on channel 3 and 4 but in mostly red with very little detail. Is this a common issue? I suspect the TV, but I never used an RF cable on the PS2 before since all TVs I have connected to accepted component AV or RGB scart. Grrrr. Also I am not used to TVs that won't tune channels as they do in the UK. Apparently that doesn't work in the USA.
