Beside the sports games and Final Fantasy, what PS2 network games still have an online following? I recently moved my stuff around the house and the PS2 is near the router, so I thought I would fire it up with an try an oldie but goodie. I also checked wiki and it does show a comprehensive list, but no details. Any recomendations?

FIFA 09, NBA Live 09, and maybe a few other sports games.

Barely anyone played most of these games even when the PS2 was current gen...probably because the whole PS2 online system was a mess.

Which ones were actually good? I have a network adapter and have never touched it, but then again none of my games use it. Sucks a bunch of them shut down, RE Outbreak looked cool and so did MGS3.

If I may misuse outdated slang, Monster Hunter was boss on the PS2. It was essentially Phantasy Star Online, but with the ability to change your character class on the fly by swapping weapons. The minigames were annoying, but Capcom was somehow able to make an environment that had more rewards and fewer cheaters, and made it all free for North America. While the game servers are gone, successors on the PSP and Wii still scratch the itch.

I was playing Phantasy Star Universe all the way through January this year. It's a little more fiddly than PSO was, with all kinds of crafting and grinding borrowed from other MMO systems. I liked it enough to buy the sequel and pay for 18 months of service, and I enjoyed the story a lot.

Ohh, Monster Hunter is the game I tried to buy and play but I didn't have that damned network adaptor disc to set it up. It looked sweet.

    Oh how I hate PSU.
