HEre's the link: http://kotaku.com/5191863/sony-makes-its-announcement-ps2-priced-under-100?skyline=true&s=x And a link to a target ad showing the price change already: http://kotaku.com/5191514/target-ad-shows-99-ps2
I checked XE earlier and the GBP and Euro were QUITE close in value. The GBP has been volatile lately (which may or may not justify Nintendo's decision to possibly raise the price of the Wii over there... you be the judge), so I can understand Sony's decision to not call for a UK price drop.
i've read that the newer models no longer have the dead BEEF issue and the lasers don't burn out, but time will tell, of course...
ASDA were selling off Playstation 2 units brand new last year for £50.00 - missed my chance then. Of course a second-hand PS2 will be cheaper than £50.00, but unless you can be 100% certain you have a good laser it could cost you more than £50.00 to have it repaired. Plus, this will give you 1 years warranty and guarantee from Sony.
Well my Fat PS2 broke, so maybe the price on Ebay will drop on a used one? I don't want to get a new one even though its only $100 bucks. Perhaps a used one will be $50 or so.
No news for me. I was in a local electronic store a few months ago and they already sold a PS2 new for 99 Euro. So what does that price drop mean for Europe?
Damn I'm really out of the loop on PS2 gaming... For a 10 year old piece of hardware I just assumed it was like $50.00 at this point. I guess Sony knows how to milk every last drop out of a console.
I dont' really consider 99$ to be expensive for a 10 years old hardware. It's still the only way to properly run your ps2 games and being old doesn't make it any more bad than it was 10 years ago. For me a ps2 is easily worth a 99$ any day now. and even tho i don't mind if it would be like 50$, i really don't consider it expensive at present.
I'm not necessarily implying that it's expensive at $100. I was just a bit surprised that a price drop to the 100 dollar mark after nearly a decade is considered interesting news. On a side note I love the way Kotaku gets their news from the target circular found in the sunday paper..
Mainly pointed my post towards the "milking the console" comment I guess it's just my inner sony fantard waking up but i'm just glad to see that they have atleast some way to fight the losses of ps3 True. But then again, i've always wondered how in the hell that evne happened to Gamecube and box to begin with? wtf just made gamecubes go on 30$ since it's still somewhat kicking and even in a backwater country such as finland where it's plain impossible to buy anything gaming related, they still stock games for it, yet the system itself is practically free.
I dunno, I guess it's okay though. Probably because Nintendo and Microsoft just fucing dumped them, which seemed to work out for them in the long run, but for last gen they kicked ass. Xbox truthfully doesn't have as many classics BUT if a game was multiplatform it usually held the best version, and Gamecube had stuff like REmake and Nintendos games. Gamecube didn't get the respect it deserved I think. But yeah, lots of value to be had in both of those. Gotta hand it to Sony for supporting an older system though, even if I personally didn't totally adore the PS2.
