I'm living in the third world country which is 220V - so I'm using converters for NTSC consoles. Since my US PS2 50001 console (loaded with HDD) burned up a 45w step down converter after a half an hour, I have some questions:
    1) Japanese 50000 model indicates it eats 30W, while 50001 one indicates it eats whole 93w, 3x times more. Why is that?
    2) 100W step-down converter will be enough for PS2 NTSC-U console with N/A and HDD?
    3) Can I use PC 300W power supply for PS2 instead of its original one?

Why not replace the PSU with a 240v one?

^Probably the best solution, if the OP can get his hands on a dead or working unit that runs on 240V for parts.

@OP: I don't think that the Japanese unit will draw only 30W. How do you know that your SCPH-50001 is drawing 93W? I haven't seen anything like that before. D:

My SCPH-10000 is rated 50W, my DESR-5100 is rated 80W, and my SCPH-39006 is rated 50W as well. So far, the SCPH-10000 and DESR-5100 haven't burned up my step-down units, although the DESR-5100 makes my PS-018 adaptor get a bit hot after a while (I blame that adaptor for being cheap, but its rated 58W... so it's actually underpowered to run my PSX).

But the PSX has got more parts than a normal PlayStation 2 console (not to mention that its specifications are actually slightly greater as well), so its maximum power consumption should be higher.

Replacing is an obvious solution (and 220!!! not 240), but I kinda missed the times when I could get the parts. For some reason nowadays it's pretty hard to find unworking PS2 units here, especially for a reasonable price (like 16$). I'll keep to look for it anyway.

It's written on the back of the console itself.

The PSUs that work on 240 work on 220. Off the top of my head they are 220-250

Thanks, but it will cost too much to ship it to russia. And russian post is burning, stealing and losing packages, it doesn't worth it anyway.

Just wondering: When I got that SCPH-39001 unit which I originally had, its PSU was modified to take in 240V. Is such a hack complicated?

Thanks for the link, didn't know about this site. It can be the last possible variant, since I mentioned that russian post is the worst postal service on this planet which have all rights to do with packages whatever they want.
By the way, PSXboy is a Chinese shop? I don't understand how they manage to profit when airmail shipping is already included in these 8.5 bucks.

    Yes, Chinese.

I have no idea how they make any money either. Shipping must be very cheap
