[PS2] POPS stuff & POPStarter

    Does anyone know how to fix the graphical glitches during gameplay in these two games?
    Boxing SLUS-013.09
    Kickboxing SLUS-014.12
    I've tried all I know. Any help would be great.

    Regarding PS1CD mode, with the VMCs in the internal HDD :
    We've found a design fault in the r12 backward compatible IMAGE0.VCD loader, that affects the physical PS1 CDROM mode. If the PP.GAME/__.GAME partition does not exist, POPStarter unmounts all the active partitions (including __common) before it queries the CDVD drive. Then all further I/O operations fail, since __common is no longer mounted lol.

    IOW, do not run your PS1 CDs with a PP. or __. prefixed ELF, because the file handlers will not work without an actual PP.GAME/__.GAME partition. Use a non-prefixed ELF instead...

    Wow... I make a test with three old Psx CDs copies on my modded Ps2 Slim and works! Im Impressioned :eek::eek:
    I Feel too sad for the POPstarter end.

    Last release POPStarter_r13_RIP_06 doesn't work for me. I'm using the latest uLE_kHn_20160723 to boot VCD files directly and every time I load one I get sent back to FMCB. Everything is in the correct locations (POPS_IOX.PAK, POPSTARTER.ELF and .VCD file are all in POPS). The previous release works just fine so I don't know why I cant get the new one to work.

    What you mean by "previous release" ? Beta 17 or one of the last proto ?

    I made a few custom HDDOSD POPS save icons, They use the official Playstation icon angled up 45 degrees, so they don't look flat, and a custom sticker/badge added to the front, like a real Playstation memory card :) Ive only made the ones for the games I've got installed, let me know if anyone wants any specific save icon.. Hope they are of some use.

    I was only trying Tomb Raider II to test if CDDA for this game was fixed.
    Well everything is fine.
    Unfortunately I have problem with 1st part (Tomb Raider SLES_000.24).
    I don't have CDDA in this game, can someone confirm this?

    Is popstarter only for PS1 isos? or can I use original discs?

    Well, you could use original discs but it's not recommended (especially if your games has CDDA tracks on it).

    Last version runs discs too. Although, compatibility sucks and it's troublesome.
    Also, that'll not let you save to real PS1/PS2 memory cards.
    It's best to play original discs with the backward compatibility. POPS is trash.

    Gimp to edit the textures, and Milkshape to add the textures and export the .ico files. Also PS2 save builder to make the icon.sys files ( I also angled the memory card icons over by 45 degrees in milkshape)

    You've done a fine job with POPS. It's definitely not trash.

    Usb performance has decreased in the last release (POPStarter_r13_RIP_06). I tried FFIX and the game freezes for a second when I use spells in a battle, like fire or cure. This doesn't occur with the beta r13 WIP 06 OBT 17. There's definitely a little lag with the latest release.
    I only tried Usb mode, not sure if the same problems are present in SMB or HDD mode.

    Syphon Filter 1 & 2 will sometimes stick for about second with this latest version.

    I recommend keeping older versions for certain games. Also, Duke Nukem TTK now works in this build.

    Maybe if krhacken doesn't want to release the source, maybe he could share it with one of his close friends? Maybe someone like Shaolin Assassin?

    It would be sad to see all of this phenomal work go to nothing.

    If I may ask, why? Is it because Jay Jay made it usable again in OPL?

    That's unfortunate :( . The sub-routines that I have attached to the recompiler waste [too] much clock cycles.
    Unfinished work is unfinished, thanks to PS2 Home and the interfering POOF antics.
    At this point, maybe a WIP 06 OBT 17 vs. RIP 06 compatibility list would be useful...

    I could share it with someone with a preliminary launcher (not fucking POPS-00001 lol), who does serious POPS researches/disassemblies.
    Lemme tell ya a few things about the source code. Besides the basic I/O crapolla, it mostly consists of pre-assembled objects/routines and injection pointers. A gigantic puzzle of asm pieces, not commented, not documented, pure haxor gibberish inside.
    Compiling the ELF/KELF is another story. The main code is compiled with a Frankenstein PS2SDK, then packed, then appended to a configuration stub, then embedded in a custom MG container. Each step is mandatory, or else POPStarter technically cannot serve its purpose. That's how it is designed.
    Creating a new launcher would be easier than trying to reboot the POPStarter project, in the outside world, from my code. My code is so badda badda that the gentlemen would have to spend days in reverse-engineering what I did, before getting into the actual POPS hacking.

    If these graphical glitches may looks like in:
    • Tony Hawk's Skateboarding
    • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
    • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
    For now there's no fix for that.

    You can also try to add "$COMPATIBILITY_0x07" to "CHEATS.TXT" to fix "black textures",
    this fix helps few games, unfortunately some still have problems:
    • Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere (black ground)
    • Gran Turismo 2 (black cars)

    It turns out that I had "TROJAN_1.BIN" file in VMC of this game. [​IMG]
    After deleting this file. CDDA works.

    Make sure that you have deleted all TROJAN files, before testing.
