    Hi there all

Fixed a couple of slim ps2s, but this one has me stumped!

I bought it broken and found two blown fuses, the console wouldn't power on. I replaced them and now the console powers on works works perfectly, except for the dvd drive.

When I hold the two close sensors, nothing moves, but I can see the laser flash red after about two seconds. I expect the assembly to move along the track, and the dvd motor to spin.

I've tried another entire laser assembly that I know works, and this does the same thing, so indicates its something on the main board...

Any one got any ideas? Possibly a fuse i've missed?

    Thanks

If the laser doesn't move along the track that's definitly not right, but I *think* the spindle motor will only spin if the laser gets a reflection first, i.e. there's a disc in the drive. (I know that's the case on some fat models at least). Are you sure the spindle motor doesn't spin?

CD/DVD-ROM driver maybe (RS2006EFV or its analog)? If you have working PSTwo try to measure resistance between spinde/sled motor outputs and ground and see if there is any difference. My local service center sells these drivers as spare parts, that means they tend to blow up quite often.

Yeah the spindle motor definitely doesn't spin. I just hold the two sensors down, and I can see the red laser light up for a second then go off- nothing else moves...

The laser tracking motor shows no life, doesn't even seem to get any voltage, but the working PS2 does...

I can see an IC on the board with RS2004FS on it as well...

From some quick googling, Orion im sure you're right, the RS2004FS may have blown.

Even if i could get one, it looks like a fairly fiddly soldering job....!
