hello im having 3 ps2 we gona disgus about my slim 77004 and my phat 50004 (both pal) the slim one is having only a 3 wire pic for enable psx backups only. my phat is freehdbooted and complete unmoded. question 1 its ok to leave the pic chip of the slim open all the time?? or if the chip signal the scex all the time can harm my laser?? question 2 my phat have a dead laser (laser type khs 400c) i order a replacement one but now it plays only cds and not dvds i try to adjust the laser height ( the 2 white cogs) nothing. i lower the pot resistance -100ohm nothing. also the laser didnt have the protection solder, so maybe the sold me a used one and damaged but before i order a new one. i need to know could it be a problem of the motherboard??
I would guess a duff laser. The normal operating range for a healthy laser is a diode resistance between 900 Ohm - 1800 Ohm. Some say u can go as low as 600 Ohm but any lower and your laser is likely fried. I would order another one from a reliable reseller.
