Uh. I didn't adjust the clock outputs.

I only reconfigured the GS and the pixel clock to output a 1080P signal. Look at this thread here, especially at my posts that were made over the past 4 months: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f19/gs-mode-selector-development-feedback-61808/

On a side note, I should probably mention here that the PS2's kernel has a couple of hidden video modes that are unknown. It seems like mode 0 (And 1 on newer consoles) is the 'automatic' video mode that doesn't seem work (On at least PCSX2).

There are others (Like mode 0x83, I think) that exist, but nobody knows what they are exactly and what they were intended to be used for. I don't have my notes right now, but I know that those modes do exist as I saw them when reverse-engineering the kernels of my SCPH-10000 and SCPH-77006.

PS2 multi-bios switchable would be nice. Japan and export systems have different language options.

I think that I've found a way to fake the region, but it really depends on how the game checks for your console's region.

I think that the SEGA Gems collection obtains the region code from the OSD settings via the EE kernel, and changing the value within the kernel should cause the game to think that your USA console is a Japanese console.

If the game checks rom0:ROMVER instead, changing the OSD settings via the kernel will not solve anything.

A cool hack, but sadly, as you said, it won't let me play imports :(

Anyway, it seems like a modchip is going to be my best bet here. I've started a new thead on the subject to avoid discussion happening in the wrong sub-forum :D It's over HERE

So how difficult is it to install the PS2 mod chip compared to the Gamecube/xbox? I know there's a lot of solder points.

The XBox and Gamecube are a walk in the park by comparison to the PS2.

While I haven't installed one, if you look at the picture in my OP of that thread I linked to, all you're doing is soldering points on the mod chip, to points on the PS2's motherboard. There's even alternate solder points so you don't have to solder to the legs on chips. I think the only thing that makes it complex is the solder points are really small.
