Hey fellas. So I had a booboo when moving last week. I had the PS2 already hooked up to my tv, and tripped over the controller. The ps2 sorta fell off the tv stand and hit the ground. Now the tray don't open more than an inch. I was planning on popping the case and taking a look at the drive mechanisms, see if the tray just came off the track.

Then I remembered reading that if you open up your ps2's case, the system doesn't work anymore. I'm not worried about voiding the warranty by breaking the sticker on the back, considering the system is over 2 years old now. I was wondering if you guys could point me to some decent ps2 repair/tech manual websites. If you guys honestly think I should send it into Sony and pay the repair costs, let me know that too. I just don't want to pay outlandish shipping fees and repair costs considering I can pick up a ps2 pretty cheap in my area.

    thanks for the help.

Nah, i crack 'em open all the time. I warn you, depending on the version it's a pain in the ass to plug all of the ribbon cables back into the dvd drive if you take it out. Just for referance, this is what the early versions look like on the inside (yours won't look the same, but it'll give you an idea what you'll be looking at)

Be VERY easy on the ribbon cable that goes to the eject button. It is a super pain in the ass. Even a small crimp in the ribbon will cause it to cease to function. Then its a long 7 day wait for a GOOD ribbon cable to arrive. Also its hard getting that thing back on. I had the worst time with them when I repaired them.

seriously, just remove the tray and buy a fliptop if the track inside is badly damaged
