I got this used from Gamestop, absolutely Mint for $18. Good deal? It comes in a FF12 style tin case with a collector card, 'Making of' DVD and a crappy Brady Games recap rundown booklet.
i just bought the pal version today for £15 from blockbusters and i must say it is a great game is the gamecube version any different?
The GC version has better graphics, but doesn't have some of the bonus missions. The Wii version is the best of the bunch though.
I'd disagree there, the Gamecube is a heck of a lot smoother and the content is an extra costume and a handful of levels..not really much to write home about.
The main issue I am having with the PS2 version is it is often hard to see what is going on, and I have it on a 32" widescreen HDTV with progression mode on and widescreen set.
Think the statement about PS2 and GC looking pretty much the same calls for a resurrection of Dot50Cal's old Resident Evil 4 - GC vs PS2 Comparison (hover mouse pointer over the images to load the PS2 shots) +Ofcourse, please do note that the PS2 version uses MPEG2 streams for most cutscenes, while the GC ran them realtime (something which ofcourse creates odd little inconcistancy issues in the PS2 version between in-game and cutscenes)
This is true. However, the PS2 version is progressive AND real widescreen. The GC version definitely has the edge in terms of graphics, but that was the lead platform and the game was never intended to be ported until it the GC bombed at retail. I wonder if the PS2 really couldn't handle the real time cut scenes, I'm sure the GC would have used videoclips if it had the disc space available. Perhaps it was a time/cost saving exercise?
PS2 most likely couldn't handle them seamlessly without taking a heavy hit in appearance and quality, so it was easier for them to just use recordings of GC footage instead. (Killer 7 on PS2 also did this, and other PS2 games such as the Xenosaga franchise also uses lots of in-game engine footage recorded as FMVs to make things appear smoother) Also, the reason why the GC uses real time instead of pre-renders is something I fully support, it creates a more consistant presentation and is a much greater way of showing your "powers" as a developer and artist. (Sure, fancy pansy FMVs are often pretty, but sometimes you usually end up enjoying those more than the actual game itself, especially as they're often there just to compensate for lacking graphics and such :/)
True, but a lot of PS2 games also use real time footage, the MGS games being probably the most notable. I suspect some of the scenes would have been hard to do if the engine was already being pushed to the limit, but a lot of the scenes are nothing more than what is already on screen. I would say most of the could have been done realtime.
Never mind the graphics the sound is badly compressed on the PS2 the Wii and Pached PC are the way to go
wasnt there a LE edition of RE4 for the PS2 that came out in USA which had a lot of soundtrack CDs and some other stuff? I was on the fence on buying that, and was wondering if it turned to a collector's piece or not.
