Yesterday i bought a PS2 slim on a flea market, when i open the console i noticed that the motherboard was rusted. the PS2 seems to work perfect and i wonder if there's any solution to clean the rust sorry if my english is bad and i hope someone will help me and sorry if this is the wrong section
Many ways, Sandpaper (if you're VERY careful), pencil eraser, 90% alcohol, Brass-o (again, VERY CAREFUL), it all depends on the severity. Try an eraser first and then alcohol.
I've seen this in ocean areas. The entire shielding will rust up. On the ps2, this can be a problem because you can't just discard the shielding.
I have seen the shielding on an European SNES start to rust. I cleaned it off by rubbing an old toothbrush, it took me about 40 minutes.
I'd say paint, like a clear coat. Dust will most likely stick to the oil and may cause a hazard one day
Dust hangs on shielding anyway doesn't? Most consoles I've pulled apart are caked in it. Xboxes love dust on their PSUs, I've always wondered how much dust it takes to cause the hazard. There's probably paint out there that won't like model paint of course expensive.
I can't remove the shield, the screw is screwed i tried but the damn thing won't turn, i hope there's a fix and also i hope this isn't an issue. What country are you in first of all? I am guessing parts will be hard to get? Get a pair of needle nose pliers and use those toe turn the screw. You can also use wire cutters to grip it horizontally and turn it. Once started, it will come off easy. The shield needs to touch the motherboard ground, so take the shield off and use a rust preventative paint on the rusting areas. If you can't get the paint and are handy with a solder iron, you can flux and tin the entire rusted areas with solder. Be sure to sand all the rust away. Make sure where it touches the motherboard ground there is good contact. Be careful not to ruin the heat sink pads on the shielding. If they are ruined, order a cheap set off aliexpress.com and put those in. I would replace them anyway, as thermal pads are so cheap. If you can source a broken unit for free, salvage the shielding.
