just got this ps2 slim scph-75001, also bought a generic ps2 slim power adapter to go with it. sometimes the system will power itself off for no reason, never during a game, mostly when trying to load a game or dvd movie. it seems so random. not sure what could be the problem. inside is very clean, no dust buildup or anything else that i could see, i opened it up all the way to the motherboard. any help is appreciated.
Are you sure the power adapter for it is good? Maybe it's not powerful enough... I'm assuming you don't have the original one to check if it's the correct wattage? I just checked 2 Slim PS2's power adapters... 75001 and 70001 and they both use the same type of adapter... SCPH-70100. Output: 8.5V @ 5.65A.
according to the specs on the generic power adapter it is the correct wattage, but if i can im going to get official power adapter to make sure that is not that problem. thanks for the reply. ive never had a slim ps2, only the phat version. my i didnt realize it was so slim.
For information sake, there's two kinds of power supplies for PS2 Slim: SCPH-70100 8.5v 5.65A SCPH-79100 8.5V 4.5A The SCPH-79100 has shorter cable and no ferrite bead. Edit: And obviously, while it fits on older PS2s the SCPH-79100 is intended for the SCPH-7900x series.
I ordered an official sony power supply today, hopefully it is just a power supply issue and not something else. thanks for the help guys. i will keep you updated once i get the new power supply.
Check the solder joints on the power connector. All consoles with a coax power port are prone to the joints cracking. It isn't common on the ps2 but check it anyways.
found out today what was the problem, the laser was causing the system to shutdown. i got a new laser today and my ps2 slim works great now.
