I've got a PS2 Slim SCPH-70001 Console that has been having issues recently. Whenever I try to start a game for the first 5-10 attempts to boot nothing will happen, then from around 10-20 startups I'll get random pixels or lines across the screen, then after like 30 start ups it will finally give the start up screen, generally at that point like 1 out of every 4 start ups will actually start the game. Most of the time the disc will spin up, so I'm really not sure what's going on. Does anyone else have this issue/know how to fix it?
Sounds like a bad av port connection and/or your laser/drive is in need of replacement. I had a slim ps-2 with a loose av port. The solder connections broke off the motherboard so I resoldered it on. Could you show some pic's or video of what is happening? Maybe I can help you better if I see what is going on.
since its a v12 (according to product code) the laser is probably fried, though i dont know wether it can be fixed without replacing (didnt happen to mine yet)
If you start it with no disc, do you get the menu screen? What about trying to play a video DVD or a music CD?
I get to the main menu by attempting the same thing as a game disc, although it usually takes about half the tries as with a game disc
K, I hear that. I have a box of spare ps-2 parts. Also let me know what laser you have. I used to fix and sell ps-2's for year's. I do have a extra PVR-802 laser here. Most v12's use that version laser I believe. If it turns out to be your av connection try cleaning it up and resoldering it back on.
