PS2 Slim SCPH-70003 Disk not spinning

Hi,

I have the above PS2 slim in and the disk does not spin. The laser moves and the laser is working (red dot).

I've removed the lid and pressed the two lid switches the laser moved down to the centre and lights up but the disk motor doesn't even twitch. The drive motor is free no binding or shot bearings.

I'm sure these suffer from an drive motor IC failure not sure if this is applicable to this version of PS2.

Any one fixed or had this issue before?

 

IIRC (which I could be mistaken, its been awhile!) - this can be caused by damage to the resistors that you solder the diode laser fix to. I fixed it by replacing the resistors.

Has someone attempted a "laser fix" on the console at all?

 

It's had the lid off it but other than that it's a virgin.

Laser may be moving but can not focus. Disc won't spin unless laser comfirms that disc is present.

Try to change laser.
