Got a PS2 slim on ebay really cheap, apparently wouldn't turn on. So I got it this morning, and it powers up fine. There is some kind of signal getting to the TV, but the screen is just blank. It does not boot up at all. Any idea what this could be and if its fixable?
Does it look like it has been opened before? Take it apart and clean the board. Blow any dust out. Check all the fuses continuity on the board with a mulitmeter. Also see if there are any failed modchip attempts.
no attempts to open previously, warranty sticker still intact. I can check fuses if you can show me where they all are (only one I know of is the main fuse next to the power socket, which obviously still works)
Check the av ports solder connections too. I've had that happen and reflowed new solder on them and video came back. well there all numbered on the board like ps1, ps2, ps3..ps17 take a look you will see them all. Heres a pic of them all for that board. http://www.boxmodz.com/psrtech/fuses/v12-gh-032-fuses.jpg
yep, checked all the fuses, they all have continuity. I've not resoldered the video pins, I'll try it, but im inclined the believe thats not the problem because the PS2 doesn't attempt to load from a disc (disc spins, but laser doesnt attempt to read it)
It could be anything, really. It just means that the EE isn't drawing anything on the screen. You could try to link up a RS232 connection to the EE's SIO port to see whether it's booting up or not.
That seems a little over my head. Im not familiar with any ports on the PS2 slim other than whats on the back...
Please refer to this: http://psx-scene.com/forums/f257/ps2-sio-scph-70012-scph-79001-a-106040/index3.html#post1196417 But whatever you do, please remember that the EE is a 1.8V device. So do not connect a 3.3V or 5V logic device to it.
yeah thats definitely way over my head lol. I can use a soldering iron pretty well, an thats about it. im 99% certain it's not booting though as the drive does attempt to read any data from the disc, it just spins, and thats it.
im interested in learning about the EE SIO port. What exactly is the process? solder wires to the SIO connections and connect it to one of these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-to-TT...983294?hash=item2804308ffe:g:XYcAAOSwu4BVsnbx
