I remember the third version of the PS2, but I can't seem to find any info on it.

Wasn't it called just "PS2 Slim" just like the first revision?

Can't find any pictures, but if I remember correctly, it had an internal PSU. Trying to find one to buy, but can't separate the two slim's.

Yes, but I'd also like to know if there's another name involved, or if it's just called "PS2 Slim (SCPH-79000).

It's the SCPH-90000 series that is the latest revision, with the internal PSU, and smaller overall. It's also known as the "super slim". Apart from stores with old new stock, this should be the only model available to buy new these days.

I don't think Sony marketed PS2 slim under a new name. Unlike the PSone.

You can buy 90000-series PS2s in pretty much any games store here in Australia, so no.

Initially (2007), that was the case, but it's been released in other regions since 2008. So you should have no trouble finding an SCPH-90003 or SCPH-90004 in Europe for example.

IIRC it was what, v12-17? I know I have a v14 in my possession and I'd swear there are some 17s out there. There are minor changes on the boards between v12 and v14 in terms of fuse placement but I don't think there was anything worth noting internally.

Beyond the first revision had the ability for an IDE cable to be wired in and some of the later slims had craptacular firmware that caused problems for a few PS1 and PS2 games. At least that was the word on the streets at the time, never been able to verify that myself (the latter half, the IDE bit is 100% true).

Yes, SCPH-9000x is v17, and v12-v16 is the previous SCPH-7x000 series.

Thanks for the help guys, would've been easier if Sony had official names for the different version...

You can still call it PSTwo...

I don't recall having ever seen this "slimmer" version though. I have seen some photos that indicate it seems to be even smaller than the previous one (which I find hard to believe but anyway).

Also does this one still have the cd reading issue ? I found out on the PS2 slim that after some time when it has heated up a bit it won't read any cds (that is, audio cds, PS1 games and cd-based PS2 games) but will still read dvds with no problem whatsoever. If this problem is solved it could make that revision the ultimate PS2 model...
